Seminar by Hairul Anuar Harun: Retrospective of Irama Malaysia
Born on the 2nd of March, 1975, in Pulau Pinang, and raised in Perak, he is an alumnus of the esteemed University Pendidikan Sultan Idris. He has a Master’s degree in Modern Literature. Currently, he is delving deeper into the rich tapestry of his heritage, pursuing a PhD in Malay Civilization, at the very institution that shaped his scholarly pursuits.
Hairul Anuar Harun is a full-time lyricist and scriptwriter and a part-time lecturer in ASWARA. He has written over 300 song lyrics among them are Cindai, Balqis, Hati Kama, and Dikir Puteri.
Hairul’s upcoming session will cover the history, evolution, glory and future of Irama Malaysia.

Despite being the first Malay movie in color, this historic epic is underwhelming. The production seems to have traded quality in location and design for color film stock, resulting in a look reminiscent of “Gilligan’s Island.” The song and dance numbers are mostly dull, with only one notable sequence featuring 'natives.'

This film depicts the lives of three bachelors and best friends Ramli, Aziz and Sudin. The three of them share a rented room in a house owned by a wealthy widow, Cik Normah. The movie chronicles their challenges in love and how they overcome it. Ramli and Cik Normah are attracted to each other but are always held back by inopportune timing. Sudin is in love with Zaiton, the daughter of a wealthy family next door and who must endure her overbearing mother's prejudices. Also in the movie is Sapiah, whom Cik Normah occasionally helps due to her troubles with her alcoholic gambler of a father. After one more incident which forces Sapiah to run away from home, she tries to drown herself in the river but is rescued by Aziz who then begins to spend a lot more time with her and they subsequently fall in love.

In May 2023. Nazirul hosted an event at Monash University Malaysia to celebrate P.Ramlee’s film and music legacy, including a symposium, a concert, and a radio tribute. He’s now leading a study on how people emotionally respond to P.Ramlee’s works.

As a programme director, researcher and advisor for gallery establishments, Khairulanwar's interest revolves around the Malay art including manuscripts, textiles, Malay wood carving and traditional Malay boats. He has collaborated with various local institutions and foundation bodies with the hope to enlighten the younger generation of tomorrow on the significance of Malay culture and heritage.
